Diane and her husband, Ken
Founded by Diane Johnson in 2010, Quilted Memories is a brand new venture for this accomplished seamtress and crafter. Her mom taught her how to sew when she was just a little girl. In the 80s, Diane worked as a dress maker for the Jacksonville, Florida boutique, Blaire Wolvertons, where she made a dress for First Lady Roslyn Carter! While she makes all kinds of quilts, she also does window treatments and upholstery.

Diane really does a faboo job with her t-shirt quilts. She'll take either 9 or 12 t-shirts and make the most unique and wonderful quilts from them. Pictured here is one she did for my teenager who is active in drama, band, and Latin. This is the perfect way to preserve some precious high school memories! The cost of a quilt like this one is only $50. The 12 t-shirt quilts are only $75. Plus, Diane pays such attention to detail. She made sure the colors for the quilt matched my daughter's school colors exactly. T-shirts can be from anything- vacations, sports, family reunions, you name it. Diane can even sew the clothes of a loved one who has passed on into a memory quilt. Just contact her at 770.312.8166 or quiltedmemories11@yahoo.com to get started on your special project.

We really do enjoy eating all kinds of foods. I didn't quite realize how eclectic our palette was until recently when a friend was telling me she's never heard of some of the dishes we eat as family staples. We were having this conversation in the car with my middle-Little in tow and talk turned to recipes my friend's family enjoys. She mentioned meatloaf was one of her all time favorites. My middle-Little piped up from the backseat, "What does meatloaf taste like?"

Beef lo mein is one of my all time favorites. It's flavorful, it's fresh, it's easy, and it just makes for some good old family time around the table for us. Lo mein is just FUN to eat no matter how old you are. The secret to a good lo mein is the sauce. My sauce is easy and tasty natch. You can change the veggies to suit your taste (I add bok choy if I have it. You might like mushrooms, etc.) and you could even use a wheat based thin spaghetti instead of lo mein noodles if you wanted. (Lo mein noodles are made from wheat flour and eggs.) None of that matters. What matters is the sauce.

Peace, B.

In your wok, stir fry one pound beef strips in two teaspoons sesame oil. Add the following veggies (or whatever you like) to the pan as the beef is cooking: two cups bean sprouts; two cups broccoli slaw mix; one thinly sliced red bell pepper; one thinly sliced red onion; two minced garlic cloves; and about a two inch section of ginger root, finely grated.*

While veggies and beef are cooking, mix the following ingredients in a bowl: 1/2 cup beef broth; 1/4 cup soy sauce; 1/2 teaspoon white pepper; and one teaspoon sugar. Mix one and 1/2 teaspoon corn starch with one tablespoon water and then, add this to the broth-soy sauce mixture.

Cook lo mein according to package directions and add the cooked noodles to the wok. Pour sauce over everything and use tongs to coat everything evenly. Heat through, so sauce clings to noodles.

I like this spicier than my family, so I use rooster sauce (srirachi sauce) on mine. We also add hoisin sauce to the final dish when we have it on hand.

*You can add 1/4 teaspoon ginger to the sauce if you don't have any ginger root.
